PHOTO REPORT ON CORRECT THINNING OF CRP PLANTATIONIn May 2000 under "Pine Plantations" we published a detailed article describing how to use PTAEDA2V to thin a plantation correctly. To read it, click on www.vardaman.com/greensheets/corthin3.php. Logging on the plantation in the article is now in progress and reveals the effect of the plan. Yellow paint spots designate trees to be left. Here is Chris Bailey in uncut portions. Note density of stand and pulpwood-quality trees on his left.
Here is Jim Vardaman in portions where logging is complete.
On 2/22/01 Jim Vardaman will speak and answer questions at the winter meeting of the Salkehatchie Forestry Association at Barnwell State Park in South Carolina. If you want to attend, get in touch with Bob Franklin, Clen Extension Service, Walterboro, SC, 843+549-2595 or rmfrnkl@clen.edu. If his hip replacement operation on 2/27/01 is successful, Vardaman will be available about four weeks later to appear before your group without charge. |
